Les Dauphins Cóte du Rhône Reserve

COST: On sale for 12.50 LCBO

MEAL:  Sirloin Steak (cooked on the stove with a cast iron skillet, medium rare), leftover shrimp scampi, and a kale salad with a simple red wine vinaigrette

MUSIC: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis - New Zealand Symphony Orchestra ) Proms 2012: Music from the 2012 Proms Season

IMPRESSIONS: I let the wine breathe for a roughly 45 minutes before I had some. When I bought it, the clerk at the LCBO had said that she had bought a bottle earlier and that the wine it was mild but full bodied. I agree with her. The wine is mellow and pleasant. The wine would be a good choice with friends who like red wine but aren’t looking for a challenging experience. It has a lovely dryness but mixed with some earthy elements and a taste of oak.

RECOMMENDATION: This wine is perfect for a dinner party for both the meal and even to sip before it. I believe that this would be a good entry point for people unaccustomed to dry reds primarily because it is an easy taste with some fruitiness and only a hint of the deeper textures.
